Bandsintown in Spotlight at 2012 Billboard Touring Conference & Awards

The 2012 Billboard Touring Conference & Awards kicked off this week in NYC and Bandsintown was center-stage as CEO Julien Mitelberg presented throughout the conference.
As the first speaker following Bill Werde and Ray Waddell’s opening remarks, Julien discussed the vast amount of ticket inventory that goes unsold – upward of 40% according to Live Nation. To better understand what motivates fans to bring them out to shows, Julien shared key insights from the study we released this fall showing how fans are most responsive to concert information being “pushed” to them – like seeing their friends or bands Facebook posts. In fact, a whopping 85% of concert goers learn about concerts through posts on Facebook.

Following his session, there was a lively panel discussion on recommended marketing strategies for concert promotion, branding and career building, moderated by Fuse SVP of Partnerships & Events, Liana Huth. By looking at Liana’s list of the predictions on who would be the top 10 touring artists, we noted that seven of the ten artists are using Bandsintown to power their tour dates online.

Near the end of the day, Julien participated in a panel on digital, social and mobile apps alongside Gretchen Fox (VP of Social Media, Live Nation), and Yves Darbouze (Co-Founder and CEO, CHARGED.fm). Other speakers and panelists throughout the conference included AXS TV chairman Mark Cuban, country star Ronnie Dunn, singer/songwriter Holly Williams, Eventful CEO Jordan Glazier, and Topspin Founder, Ian Rogers. Tonight, comedian Sandra Bernhard is hosting the awards ceremony and we’re excited to see Neil Diamond accept his Legend of Live Award!
We will be posting more on the panels we attended and the great conversations we had so be sure to add our blog to your RSS feed to stay up on the latest!
